The term "advertisement" refers to any of the following promotion actions:
-Keyword advertising
-Sponsored links by e-mail
-Banners

A Browser is a software application for displaying Web pages, used to navigate the World Wide Web. Popular browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Opera.

The action of clicking on an element within a site and having a web page displayed on the user’s screen in order to see its content. As the user clicks, the interactive process begins (definition by IAB).

A Conversion occurs when a visitor takes an action that the ShinyStat user deems valuable, according to his objectives of analysis.

Example of conversions are: a successful completion of an order-purchase, the filling out of a form, the subscription to a mailing-list , etc.

A Cookie is an alphanumeric code assigned by the web server to the visitor's browser during each session on a web site. If necessary, the server can read back the cookie information on the visitor's client.
ShinyStat uses cookies for its tracking service.

CPC (Cost Per Click ) is the cost of each click, i.e. the cost of advertising divided by the clicks it has generated.

The keyword advertising is an online form of advertising based on the Pay per Click model: the advertisers pay only when a user actually clicks on their ad.
The cost per click is auctioned through an online bid-based system and it depends on the competitiveness of your keyword.

Examples of keyword advertisings are: Google Adwords and Google AdSense.

Shinystat uses a mobile average over 7 days. On the chart, the mobile average is displayed as a trend line which smoothes the recurrences of the days and provides you with a quick overview of the period trend.

    Formula:
    Yn = (Xn-3 + Xn-2 + Xn-1 + Xn + Xn+1 + Xn+2 + Xn+3) / 7

A new visitor is the visitor who accesses a Web site for the first time.

When a web page is actually seen by a visitor, it is referred to as 'Page view'.

    Example:
assume a visitor accesses your site through your home page, then he/she browses through the company and contacts pages and finally he/she comes back to the home page. ShinyStat will track 4 page views.

By placing the ShinyStat code at the bottom of the page, the tracked page view will correspond to a page entirely downloaded and displayed by a visitor (*).

In order to read your reports properly, please pay attention not to confuse 'page views' with 'visits'.

(*) in compliance with the international Internet audience measurement standards.

This term refers to the number of unique visitors/browsers who visit a web site once or more a day.

Each visitor will be counted only once no matter how many times he or she visits your site within the specified timeframe (day).

The Conversion point, or Conversion page, is the site page where a conversion action is successfully completed.

Examples of Conversion points are: the thank you page for completing a form, the confirmation page for an online order and so on.

A referrer is the URL of the web page containing the link a visitor clicked to reach the tracked site.

All contacts which cannot be technically identified because of user's browser errors are referred to as 'Unknown'.
A percentage of visits lower or equal to 2% is to be considered within the norm as in line with the average of users.

A high percentage of 'unknown' visits (higher than 2%) can be due to the fact that the web site is accessed from different domains and the field 'Domains to be considered' in the account setting has not been filled correctly (or not filled at all).

Filling this field is very important for correct data tracking. It is recommended to read 'Domains to be considered' in the guide.

The SERD™ is the system developed by Shiny to retrieve the ranking of a web site on the major search engines.

The term session refers to the web site pages requested by one visitor. The session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity since the last requested page, or when the visitor closes the browser.

ShinyStat Rank (SR) is ShinyStat's index that defines a site's popularity as a function of the number of visits that the site receives. Thus, ShinyStat Rank is a real time index of a site success.

The scale used is dynamic . To the latter we have conventionally attributed the value SR=50, while the symbol '-' is attributed to the sites aged less than 7 days. Therefore the higher is the number of visits a sites achieves, the higher will be its SR value.
In the graphic representation, a half-colored star corresponds to the ShinyStat Rank from 1 to 5.
Therefore, a site with SR 13 will be indicated by this icon

The conversion rate in the Referrer Conversions report is different from the conversion rate used in the Campaign Conversions report.

In the first case, the conversion rate is the ratio between the number of conversions and the number of visits generated by a specific referrer (conversions/visits).

In the second case, the conversion rate is the ratio between the number of conversions and the number of clicks of the campaign (conversions/clicks).

A visit is the first time a visitor accesses a web site during a single session , independently from the number of page views.
A new access by the same visitor is tracked as a new visit after a 30 minute period (*). Example: assume a visitor accesses your site through the home page, then he/she browses through the company and contacts page and finally he comes back to the home page. ShinyStat will track one single visit and 4 page views.
In case that visitor should perform the same action after 30 minutes, ShinyStat will track only 4 page views.
The visit will be counted again after a 30 minute period of inactivity.

Returning Visitor” is the browser that has entered the web site at least once before.
With “Returning Visitors” reference is made to the number of visitors/browsers that have entered the website at least once before.

When a user returns to a website already visited before and by using the same browser, he/she will be identified as a “returning visitor”.
Otherwise, if the user has never accessed the website previously, he/she will be identified as "New Visitor" or "Absolute Unique Visitor" .

CHANNELS are subsets of an account that allow to separately analyse the traffic generated by specific sections of the website.

Configuring a CHANNEL, you can analyse the traffic generated exclusively by a specific section of the website and, in particular, by all those web pages whose address satisfies the requirements (i.e simple text filters or regular expressions)  provided for the definition of the channel itself.

By activating a channel, a new report will be made available, showing only the standard metrics (unique visitors, visits, page views, average time per page, average time per visit) concerning the pages of the website whose address meets the rules for the configured channel.
